MODULE NO / UNIT COURSE SYLLABUS CONTENTS OF MODULE NOTES
1 Solution of Polynomial and Transcendental Equations: Bisection method, secant method, Regula-Falsi method, Newton-Raphson method.
Solution of Systems of Linear Equations: Gauss elimination method, Gauss-Jordan method, Triangularization method.
2 Iterative methods for Solving Systems of Linear Equations: Jacobi method, Gauss-Seidel iteration method.
Curve fitting: Least-square approximation for fitting a straight line and polynomials of given degree.
3 Numerical Differentiation: Methods based on Newton’s forward difference formula, Newton’s forward difference formula and Sterling’s formula.
Numerical Integration: Trapezoidal rule, Simpson’s 1/3 rule, Simpson’s 3/8 rule, Romberg integration, Newton-Cotes integration formula.
4 Solution of Differential Equations: Initial value problem; Taylor series method, Picard method of successive approximation, Euler’s method, Runge-Kutta methods of second order and fourth order.
