ABOUT THE DIRECTORATE OF SPORTS
Sports contribute to the development of personal and social values that are very important in the educational process of the child and teenager. Sports is a school where player learns the values like commitment, discipline, preservance, self confidence, team work, learn to compete, controlled success and controlled failure etc. Understanding the importance of the Sports, the Kurukshetra University included the Sports as an integral part of its educational structure since its inception in 1956. The Kurukshetra University has the honour to produce the 03 Padamshrees, 16 Arjuna Awardees, 06 Dronacharya Awardees, 01 Tenzing Norgay Awardee & 01 Dhyanchand Awardee. The University won the prestigious Maulana Abul Kalam Azad (MAKA) Trophy (symbol of supremacy in University Sports) in the year 1966-67and the ranking during the Last Twelve Years has remained in Top Four from 2007-2019.
The Directorate of Sports of the University has established the perfect path for the development of University Sports by adopting the professional approach. The Department runs the Centres for upcoming promising Sports Persons in all disciplines for imparting the training and organizes the specific advance training programmes during the Camps before participation into the National Competitions.
The Directorate of Sports of the University provides the channels & ample opportunities to the budding athletes of campus & affiliated colleges to perform with excellence at National & International level. The Department organizes about 80 Inter-Collegiate Championships in men & women sections in different sports disciplines. Coaching camps of minimum 30 days for the University teams, prior to their participation in the Inter-University Championships, are organized. The Department sends about 80 teams consisting of 800 men & women players approx., for participation in Inter University Championships and organizes 2-3 North Zone/All India Inter University Championships, every year.
