About Us

The Institute of law is housed in its own building on the university campus, the foundation stone of which was laid down by the Hon’ble Mr. Justice Dr. A.S. Anand, the then Chief Justice of India. Situated over a compact area of 60,000 square feet, the building complex possesses a state-of –the–art infrastructure, well-equipped with modern amenities to create a dynamic environment and to nourish with a world-class experience. The Institute of Law, Kurukshetra University Kurukshetra, has the unique distinction of being the first law school in Haryana to start a five- year integrated B.A.LL.B (Hons.)Programme in 2001 and it has now entered its 18th year of imparting excellence in legal education. The Institute provides excellent platform for the study of law in a dynamic environment. It has been ranked the seventeenth best law institute in India by India Today– Nielsen Survey in 2018. Set up in the holy city of Kurukshetra the Institute of law aims to develop in the students social and scientific research skills so as to enhance in them a sense of responsibility to serve the society as professionals. The curriculum of the Institute is designed to inculcate in the students professional skills of advocacy. The skills so imparted here are integrated with conceptual and theoretical foundations of a vast range of legal and social science streams taught by a dedicated pool of teachers pursuing academic excellence.
Besides classroom teachings, the Institute of law provides the students an opportunity to hone their skills by participating in several academic, co-curricular and extra curricular events. Today while some of the alumni of the Institute are working in different fields which cover premier law firms, both national and international, leading public sector undertakings, judiciary, civil services, academics, others are pursuing higher education from reputed universities. The Institute of Law has emerged as one of the pacesetters in the Indian legal education.

MISSION
The Institute is committed to providing to the Law students the best of academic and practical training to transform them into competent and socially relevant professionals.

Academic achievements :

The faculty at the Institute of Law comprises of an experienced, dynamic and visionary Director and well-qualified teachers belonging to diverse academic backgrounds with a great amount of expertise in their respective fields. The vast pool of knowledge and experience of faculty members is one of the greatest assets of the Institute. The Institute also invites visiting and guest faculty members from other departments.

Noteworthy achievements :

  1. Moot Court Competitions are a regular feature of the Client Counselling is a part of Moot Court Activity. Client counselling is the first step of legal profession. Recently, a two-days Intra- Institute Client Counselling Competition, 2018 was organized for the first time in the Institute on 7th -8th March, 2018. The Competition was an innovation to reduce multiplicity of court cases by developing healthy relationship between Advocates and Clients. The prizes to the winners and certificates to all participants were distributed by the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor of Kurukshetra University. Prof. Kailash Chandra Sharma as the Chief Guest on 8th March, 2018 in the Valedictory function. Senior lawyers from the Bar and senior academicians were Judges in this Competition.

  2. The 1st National Moot Court Competition was organised by the Institute on 12th -13th March, Thirty eight teams from different National law schools and College across India participated in the event. The Chief Guest for the Inaugural session was Hon’ble Justice Rajesh Bindal and the judges in the final round were Hon’ble Mr. Justice Surya Kant and Hon’ble Justice Raj Mohan of Punjab and Haryana High Court. The chief Guest for the Valedictory session was Hon’ble Mr. Justice K.G. Balakrishnan, Former Chief Justice of India. The students of Delhi Metropolitan education, GGSIPU, New Delhi won the trophy of this Competition.

  3. First National Seminar on Human Rights organised on dated 19th September 2014.

  4. National Seminar on Media and Law organised on dated 11st February 2016.

  5. National Essay Writing Competition organised on dated 15.03.2019.

LEGAL AID ACTIVITIES / CAMPS

  • The Legal Aid Committee of the Institute organized Online Orientation Programme on Connecting Rule of Law with Law of Life through Legal Aid on 14th October, 2021. This programme was organized for the first semester students of the Institute to acquaint them of the Legal Aid Cell of the Institute and its Activities.
  • The Legal Aid Committee of the Institute organized Inter-departmental Online Poster Making Competition on the theme “Legal Aid for People” on National Legal Services Day on 9th November, 2020. This Competition was open for Law students of the Institute and Law Department, KUK. In this competition, Surbhi, student of LL.M. won First position, Second position was won by Virender, student of final year of the Institute and Third position was won by Anjali, first year student of the Institute. The certificates and prize money was awarded to the winners.
  • The Legal Aid Committee of the Institute organized Online Legal Aid Camp at Indira Gandhi National College, Ladwa on 15th February, 2021. In this Camp, students presented on different socio-legal topics and made this camp a high success.
  • An Inter-Departmental Online Declamation Competition was organized by the Cultural & Law Fest Committee of the Institute on “Human Rights for All” on the occasion of International Human Rights Day on 10th December, 2020 in order to increase awareness of the emerging area of human rights. This Competition was open for Law students of the Institute and Law Department, KUK. In this competition, Anadi, student of 2nd year of the Institute won First position, Second position was won by Navnoor Kaur, student of final year of the Institute and Third position was won by Riya, fourth year student of the Institute. The certificates and prize money was awarded to the winners.
  • An Intra-Institute Online Sports Quiz Competition was organized by the Cultural & Law Fest Committee of the Institute on 8th February, 2021 in order to increase sports awareness and knowledge to maintain a healthy and happy life especially keeping in view the Covid-19 situation. It was a quiz which was specifically devoted to sports and specific questions were asked regarding sports, General knowledge and Current Affairs. The certificates and prize money was awarded to the winners.
  • An Inter-Departmental Online Short Film Competition was organized by the Cultural & Law Fest Committee of the Institute on the occasion of International Women Day on 8th March, 2021 on the Theme of “Challenges and Role of Women”. In this Competition, Lalit, student of M.A. of the Deptt. of Sociology won the first prize, Karuna, student of M.Sc., Deptt of Electronic Science, won the second prize and Jyoti, LL.B. 1st year, Department of Law won the third prize.
