About Us

With an intake of 30 students, the Department of Sociology was a late entry in the year 1998 at university campus among the faculty of social sciences. The subject was started to foster a multitude of trained professionals cum social engineers especially in the Northern part of Haryana. With the system & trend of regular updation of curriculum to the tune of UGC -NET Exam and Model Curriculum, and, other Civil Services Exams, the department of Sociology offers admission to the students to its post-graduate (in Semester scheme under CBCS) and Ph.D. programmes from all over the country.  Since its inception, the department has grown manifolds as around 60 students have been admitted to PG classes of Sociology.  The Ph.D. research scholars are working hard on a variety of issues of national level.  Located on the first floor of the Department of Music & Geo Physics, the department is housed in a splendid building having elaborate infrastructural facilities consisting of 02 lecture theatres, well-furnished library with about …books, a computer lab with round the clock LAN/Wi-Fi facilities, separate seating space for all faculty members, research scholars and visiting faculty and separate washrooms for male and female. From time to time, the department invites renowned scholars as members of Board of Studies, visiting faculty & scholar in residence for delivering extramural lectures. All faculty members equally participate with team spirit in academic programs and administrative work through a system of consultation and committees. Apart from regular teaching and supervising Ph.D. scholars, all teachers are constantly engaged in research activities, resulting in publication of a large number of articles and research papers in different fields of sociology.

Major areas of teaching and research are: Gender studies, Sociology of Health, Sociology of Organisation & Human Resources, Political Sociology, Sociology of Education, Rural & Urban Sociology, Social Psychology, Environmental Sociology, Criminology, Classical, Modern & Advanced Theories in Sociology, and Population Studies.

The department has produced innumerable scholars, administrators, professionals, social and political activists. At present, there are 4 regular faculty in the department including one professor and the department is chaired by Dr. Vijender Singh.

VISION

  • To offer interdisciplinary quality education coupled with humanistic values and also to conduct pragmatic research of international repute.
  • To imbibe rational understanding of societal issues among the students and to prepare them for tracing the amicable solutions of the same.
  • To prepare the students about fostering the notion of inclusive society and nation’s reconstruction by catering to the needs of the marginalised and disadvantages communities

  • To develop the department as a Centre for Advanced Studies in Culture (CASC).
  • To collaborate with the institutions of national and international repute for creating & exchanging knowledge.
  • To impart and create knowledge in collaboration with national and international institutions.
  • To identify the career needs of the society & also to promote them in a sustainable way.
