M.Sc. Environment Science has been started as a professional course from the academic session 2006-2007 with a focus on interdisciplinary teaching and research in the key areas of Natural Resource Management, Biodiversity Conservation, Pollution and Climate Change, Environmental Economics, Ecosystem Modeling, Ecotechnology and Agro ecology.

An Interdisciplinary professional course, Master of Technology (M.Tech) Energy and Environmental Management, has been started from the academic session 2008-09. The M.Tech programme provides professional skills to the students in the key areas of Energy Management including Energy Conservation and Energy Efficiency, Environmental Management, Environmental Impact Assessment, GIS and Remote Sensing, Bioremediation and Biofuels, Energy and Climate Change.

The Institute has started Ph.D. programme in Environmental Science since 2007.  The major thrust areas of research are Ecology, Carbon Management, Ecological Restoration, Environmental Biotechnology, Waste management, Environmental Monitoring and Assessment and Energy management, RS in LULC and forest health.

The Institute has established MoU with ICAR-CSSRI for research and training of M.Sc, M.Tech and Ph.D students

Two courses of distance education are being coordinated by the Institute i.e., PG Diploma and Post Graduate Course in Environmental Education. Also UG compulsory course of Environmental Studies (AECC) in the University campus is being coordinated by the Institute.

The Institute lays great emphasis on assisting the students in the development of self-confidence with managerial traits. Intensive practical/field training, educational tour, seminar, minor projects, dissertations, power point presentations etc form special features of the programme. The students are also trained to analyze and assess environmental and energy systems and problems and to develop policies and strategies for sustainable environmental management.

Summer training of M.Sc. & M.Tech. students various prestigious organizations, institutes, industries and ministries is a compulsory part of the curriculum. In the fourth semester students undergo project dissertations in the Institute as well as with prestigious collaborations. The Institute has established collaborations for training and research with more than 150 organizations, consultancies, research institutes, NGOs etc.

M.Sc. and M.Tech. dissertation projects have been completed in the thrust areas of Bioremediation and Biodegradation, Ecological Restoration, in vitro Conservation, Environment Monitoring and Impact Assessment by RS & GIS, Environmental Auditing, Hazard Management, Energy Efficiency and Management, Renewable Energy and Clean Development Mechanism (CDM), Energy Auditing, Ecohomes,  Designing of Sanitary Landfills, Clean Development for Climate Change Mitigation, Environmental Cost Accounting, Water Conservation techniques in Agriculture, Air Pollution Modelling, Efficiency Analysis of Solar Plants and Solid Waste Management.

The Institute has air conditioned computer laboratory (Wi-Fi) , Seminar room with Interactive Smart Board and visualizer, lecture rooms, student labs (M.Sc and M.Tech) and eight research laboratories including Central Instrumentation Lab, Soil Research Lab, Environmental Biotechnology Lab, Workshop and Energy Lab, Ecology Lab, Environmental Microbiology Lab, Air and Water Lab, Remote Sensing and GIS, Lab fully equipped with modern facilities and instruments like CHNS analyzer, Nitrogen analyzer, Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer, Gas Chromatograph, Rota Evaporator, Gel Doc., Spectrophotometer, and Air Sampler and also, Solar Energy Resource Kit, Bomb Calorimeter, and Weather Station are available.

Institute also provides an in-house library facility with about 900 books on latest topics, magazines and necessary reference materials, in emerging areas of ecology, environmental management, natural resources, environmental monitoring, pollution control, environmental biotechnology, remote sensing and GIS, renewable energy and climate change, energy efficiency, environmental economics and environmental engineering.

The Institute has proven to be a nurturing ground for technically proficient, dynamic and vibrant human resource development. The M.Sc, students have been placed as  Environmental Specialists, Research Associates in various International Companies and Organizations and as Assistant Manager-Environment, Environmental Scientists, Researchers and Assistant Professors in National Companies, Industries and Organizations. M.Tech students have got placements in prestigious International Companies as Environmental Engineers, EIA Consultant and in National  Companies,  Consultancies and Organizations  Assistant Engineer, GIS Specialist, Assistant Environmental Engineer, Project Fellow and EIA Expert. Others are pursuing higher studies in prestigious organizations like IISc Banglore, IIT and IISER etc.

Many M.Tech students have initiated their own Start-ups in the fields of Waste Management, Sustainable Solutions, Environmental Impact Assessment
